  • La Traviata Gran Teatre del Liceu

La Traviata Gran Teatre del Liceu

In 1853, La Fenice theatre of Venice commissioned Verdi to compose an opera. This is how La Traviata was conceived, one of the most famous operas of all times. Based on The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas, Verdi exalts life and human virtues through the story of Violetta. It was poorly received at the time owing to its subversive allusions, but today La Traviata is considered a masterpiece. It is now at the Gran Teatre del Liceu under the excellent production of David McVicar, with a staging that provides a contemporary review in spite of the period setting.
