Pet Friendly Barcelona
Travelling with your pet doesn't have to be complicated. We love animals in Barcelona and we've put everything in place so that you and your furry friend can visit the city with total peace of mind. All you need to do is make sure you have all the necessary documents and health certificates and that they are microchipped and their vaccinations are up to date.

Once you've arrived in Barcelona, it's walkies time! With the city's great climate and outdoor spaces, like the seafront promenade and its many parks and gardens, the time will fly by! Some of the city's main visitor attractions are pet friendly too. They include the Poble Espanyol, where you can soak up the culture, relax in the open air, and eat at the restaurants with the Pet Friendly logo, and the Museu de l'Eròtica, a museum dedicated to erotic art and culture that you can also visit with your dog. And on rainy days, why not have fun in one of the city's escape rooms where you can play with your dog? In Barcelona, it couldn't be simpler.

Getting around on public transport

- You can travel with your pet on buses and on the metro, provided that they are kept in a suitable carrier. You can also travel on the metro with your dog without a carrier, but it must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle at all times. Remember that your pet must be microchipped and its documents up to date. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the metro at busier times. Find out more here.

Dining out and having a drink with your pet
Barcelona's Mediterranean climate means you can enjoy the city in the open air all year round. You'll find a great choice of pavement cafés and terraces where your pet will be welcome. In winter, the terraces have heaters to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. You'll also find pet friendly restaurants that allow pets inside. Some of them even serve pet menus. There are also ice cream parlours that have ice creams for pets.
Shopping with your pet. Everything you need to know
You'll find pet friendly shops and shopping centres in Barcelona. Pets must be kept on a lead, and wear a muzzle if your dog is considered a potentially dangerous breed.

The pet friendly shopping centres are: the open-air Westfield Glòries, in the 22@ innovation and technology district; Las Arenas, in Plaça d'Espanya near Montjuïc; the open-air Westfield La Maquinista, in the Sant Andreu district; and Maremagnum, in the port overlooking the sea, which opens every day of the year. Some of their shops allow pets but this is at the shop owner's discretion. There's always the option of dining alfresco at one of the restaurant terraces in the company of your four-legged friend.
In the centrally located Born neighbourhood, you'll find Bornisimo, a shop specialising in hand-crafted and designer accessories for pets. Pets are allowed with no kind of restrictions. And in the Eixample, Minimal Life offers a wide range of wellness products for all the family, including pets!
There are two open-air, pet friendly shopping centres outside Barcelona: La Roca Village, where you can enjoy a shopping experience 40 minutes away from the city, and Viladecans The Style Outlets, which is just 15 minutes away. You can dine alfresco on their restaurant terraces with your pet. Some restaurants allow pets inside. You'll also find water feeders where your four-legged friend can quench its thirst after a day's shopping. Both shopping centres are home to leading brands and offer year-round savings on the original price.
Remember that dogs are not allowed in shops where food is sold or prepared. The rest of the city's shops operate their own in-store rules regarding the admission of pets.
Parks and open-air spaces
You can explore the city with your dog provided that it is kept on a lead. You'll also find green spaces and areas that have been designed with your furry friend in mind, where they can socialise with other animals and you can let them off the lead. There are specially designated dog friendly areas where your dog can run and play. You'll find them in all the city's neighbourhoods. There are also streets, squares and avenues that have been designated as shared use areas, where you can let your dog off the lead at particular times in the morning and evening. If your dog is considered a potentially dangerous breed, it must always be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle in these areas. You'll find all the play areas for dogs around the city on this map.

Do you want to live in Barcelona?
You and your pet will be most welcome if you've decided to move to Barcelona. When you arrive in the city, you must register your pet on the Barcelona register of pets and wild animals in captivity. Remember that you will need the necessary health certificate and your pet must be microchipped to be allowed into the country. If you are bringing your dog with you, you will need to take out a civil liability insurance policy. If your dog is considered a potentially dangerous breed, it will need a licence.
